Life Cycle of a Writer – Taking A Break From Writing

It’s been a particularly demanding year, I moved house, had one book published, completed and submitted another, all this alongside both my parents and my daughter being admitted to hospital (emergencies) at different times and, very sadly, my lovely mother-in-law passed away. So, with some relief, I took a break from writing to allow life to settle. I blogged about it over at The Romaniacs for my turn on Life Cycle of a Writer …

It doesn’t seem like five minutes since I was here blogging about receiving my edits for The Half Truth (click HERE to view). Since then my third Harper Impulse novel has flown the nest and is fending for itself out in the big wide world. I will be honest in saying that afterwards I felt quite drained by the whole process. Despite having plenty of writing to get on with, I didn’t feel emotionally or physcially able to do any. At the back of my mind the writing advice of ‘write something every day’ kept plaguing me but try as I might, I couldn’t summon up any enthusiasm.  I was also very much aware my family were well in credit for some of my time, having graciously and lovingly, supported me when I was under deadline pressure.

Life Cycle of a Writer: Seeing The Light

I’ve emerged from my writer’s cave. It’s sunny, bright, and I’ve discovered spring has sprung, my children have each grown an inch, and so has my waist.

My third novel, currently titled, What Doesn’t Kill You, has left the building. I’ve spent quite some time with it, holed up in my cave, ensuring I delivered it to my publishers on time. I was in plaster when I started writing the book, having undergone ulna head replacement surgery December 2013, and was a tad impeded to start with, spending months in casts and splints. I had planned to complete the book in nine months, but it’s taken a year. That’s a record for me. My first novel, Truth or Dare? took a steady six years, (something like nine drafts from start to publication), and Follow Me Follow Youtook eighteen months. During those times, my children were younger and…

The Half Truth – Update

I have an official publication date of 19 March for my third novel, The Half Truth. The blurb has been loaded up on Amazon, by my publishers HarperImpulse and I’m just waiting for the cover to be finalised.

Publication date seems a long way off, but I expect it will come round very quickly.

Here’s the link for The Half Truth which is available to pre-order.

In the meantime, I’m busy working on my next novel, Where It All Began and my novella mystery series.

  • Whether you’re an aspiring writer, looking for an agent, have found an agent and have every finger crossed for a publishing deal, or if you’re a published writer coping with everything that entails, we have a Romaniac who can empathise with you. When we started out, we all dreamed of the day we’d get published. Some of us are still chasing the dream, whilst others have their paperback in hand ready to hurl at anyone who dares to post a 1-star review. This year, we thought we’d share the highs and lows of what it is to be a writer.

The Romaniacs gave me a surprise book birthday party 😀

United States of Love … HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

USL HI

‘It was so funny and romantic … (There) was so much romance and fun going on I totally loved it! A wonderful author who I hope to read more from.’ Amazon reviewer, Angela.

It’s a year since Sue Fortin’sHarperImpulse debut, United States of Lovewas released, and we at Romaniac HQ wanted to wish it a fabulous 1st birthday. It’s a great, romantic read with a handsome, hot hero, and a strong heroine who has many dilemmas to overcome.

I wonder what Tex is doing to celebrate. A big hog roast in his restaurant, perhaps, or a trip home to America see his family …

And with Sue’s second novel, a fast-paced, gripping suspense,Closing Indoing well in the charts, it’s a double celebration!

The Paperback Has Landed

It’s real!

Just when I thought the paperback version of Closing In was a bit of a daydream, it landed on my doormat this week. Hopefully, the glitch with Amazon will be fixed soon, my publishers are ‘on the case’, so for those who have been asking about the paperback, you should soon be able to order it.

Meanwhile, back in the ebook world, I’m delighted that the digital version is doing well and thank everyone for their support.

A Year On From Signing My Publishing Deal

My publishing deal one year on …

The Romaniacs's avatarThe Romaniacs

Next month will mark a full year since I signed a three book publishing deal with Harper Collins’ romance imprint Harper Impulse.

blog picture pen

It’s been an exciting year which has seen two of the titles published, both in digital and paperback format, book number three submitted and, as a group, The Romaniacs have also published a short story anthology. To say it has whizzed by would be an understatement, but I’ve taken a moment to pause and reflect on how the past year has been.

Fast. Busy. Stressful. Exciting. Frustrating. Enjoyable.  And every emotion remotely related to those. That’s how it’s been.

And it’s not just the range of emotions I’ve experienced, I’ve also learned a lot about myself as a writer and the writing process itself. Amongst many things, I’ve learned …

That I will love my edits, despite what I may tweet at the time of being in the…
